The Apprentice – Making Life Work (2015)
Produced and directed by Michael Maloney.
The objective of this production is to encourage young people to seek out career opportunities afforded by apprenticeships. A common myth is that Britain is no longer a major manufacturing nation. But the reality is that, despite a considerable surviving industrial base, apprenticeships have declined and have been systematically undervalued. Home grown smaller enterprises are overshadowed by the spectre of globalism. Educational policies have favoured university qualifications at the expense of vocational expertise gained by a “hands on”experience in the real workplace. An apprentice system has obvious advantages, and provides a constant supply of skilled and motivated young people into the workplace. Apprenticeships are vital for the future prosperity of Britain – both socially and economically.
